Minister Must Honour Multi-Annual Funding for Tillage Sector
IFA Grain Chair John Murphy has said that commitments made by the Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon last week on multi-annual funding for future tillage schemes must be honoured throughout the lifetime of this Government.
Martin Heydon was speaking at the IFA AGM in the Irish Farm Centre last week.
“The €30m announced for tillage supports in Budget 2026 was a start. However, IFA strongly believes that €65m per annum is what’s actually needed to support the tillage sector in exiting from its current state of crisis,” John Murphy continued.
“IFA has been engaging with Department officials on proposals for a tillage sustainability payment this spring. The discussions have been constructive and further details will become available in the coming weeks.”
“We have stressed the need to get payments out onto tillage farms as quickly as possible ahead of the spring season,” John Murphy concluded.
