Pigs Market Report 8th July

There was no change in Irish pig prices on Friday last, with producers reporting a broad spread of prices across the Republic of Ireland. Those operating under the graded pricing system have reported slightly higher prices for certain pig weight categories, though the average price for pigs processed this week remains between €1.74/kg and €1.78/kg. Pig farmers who are selling their pigs to the North are on higher prices than those quoted above and the same is the case for farmers selling pigs on the grading pricing structure in the South.

The weekly throughput as reported by the department of Agriculture, Food and The Marine for the week ending the 5th of July was 67,814 of which 1,974 were sows.

The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 26 was €1.56 (excluding VAT), reporting a slight drop of 0.1% on last week’s average price. When compared with the previous month, prices have fallen by 2.9% and sit 27% behind the same period last year.

According to the latest Agritel report recent heatwaves in Europe, specifically France, are causing a rise in many of the cereal crop prices. Corn and wheat have seen the greatest increase from this, with corn increasing by €8.5/ton in Euronext’s November contract price. This increase in cereals has also led to a minor increase in other feeds such as rapeseed and some soyabean contracts.
