Government Failing to Grasp the Seriousness of Fuel and Fertiliser Crisis – IFA President

Following this evening’s meeting, IFA President Francie Gorman said that if the Government is serious about solving this escalating fuel and fertiliser crisis they must act in a more productive and urgent manner.

“We met the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance along with the Minister for Agriculture 10 days ago with proposals and nothing happened since,” Francie Gorman said.

“At today’s meeting, there were no proposals put on the table from the Government and that is simply not good enough,” he added.

“The Government needs to act immediately and substantially, start engaging with us in a more productive manner and put meaningful and effective measures in place,” the IFA President added.

IFA Farm Business Chair Bill O’Keeffe said the state of play on farms is becoming alarming and the Government must realise the seriousness of the situation.

“The situation is critically urgent on farms at the moment, with feed and fertiliser supply along with milk collection severely compromised, and it is deteriorating daily.”

“The Government needs to understand this and implement substantial measures to solve this crisis. Time is running out,” he concluded.

IFA will be continuing dialogue with the Government and department officials tomorrow, Sat 11th April.”
