Major Increase in Demand for Lamb for Muslim Festival
IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey has said the lamb trade is buoyant this week with factories looking for lambs and expecting a major increase in demand as the week progresses, heading into a big kill next week for the Muslim festival of Eid.
John Lynskey said factories are paying €4.80 to €4.90/kg for lambs up to carcase weights of 22 and 22.5kgs.
He said the live trade is also buoyant with €2.20 to €2.30/k liveweight being paid, up to weights of 50kgs.
John Lynskey said the ewe trade is also strong with €2.70/kg being paid.
