IFA – Lamb Trade Continues to Rise
IFA National Sheep Committee Chairman James Murphy said the lamb trade continues to strengthen with factories paying up to €4.80/kg to 23kg carcase weight.
James Murphy said the mart trade is also very strong with live export buying for the forthcoming Muslim festival Id-al-Adha on November 7th. He said lambs in the 46 to 55kgs range are making €55 – €60 over the €/kg.
In addition, James Murphy said the payout on Single Farm Payment and Disadvantaged Areas is filtering through the marts with both stores and breeding sheep price increases.
James Murphy said it is important that farmers continue to move lambs as they are fit. He said “with prices rising strongly farmers should make sure they are getting full value for their stock and know exactly what the weight limits are before they finalise a deal”.
