No Reason Why Lift in UK Beef Prices Cannot Happen Here – IFA

IFA Livestock Chair Declan Hanrahan said beef prices in England have increased by upwards of 10p/kg this week as supplies tighten and demand increases.

He said this significant turnaround in beef prices in our key market must be reflected in similar price rises here.

Declan Hanrahan was commenting following a meeting in Co Laois this week with NFU leaders and beef farmers from England.

“We both face similar challenges and market disruption from cheap Southern hemisphere beef. It is important we work together to safeguard this vital market for the benefit of Irish and English beef farmers against these threats,” he said.

“Factories must step up to the plate and return similar price increases for our beef over the coming days and weeks, reflecting the strengthening of demand for beef in this critical market.”

Declan Hanrahan said we have heard enough of the negativity over the last number of months from factories and their agents.

“It is now time for them to change their tune and reflect the reality of the marketplace in higher beef prices to farmers,” he concluded.
