Prices remain stable following two consecutive price drops in recent weeks. Farmers are reporting an average price of circa €2.06 – 2.08/kg for pigs sold in ROI. The total drop of 20c/kg in two weeks is unprecedented, especially in the summer months, given that there hasn’t been any increase in the supply of pigs across Europe overall and there is still good demand for live pigs across Ireland.
Ireland is the only MS to have dropped 10c/kg two weeks running which cannot be sustained.
The weekly throughput for week ending July 20th was 64,883 of which 1,466 were sows.
