Irish pig prices finished last week unchanged, with producers reporting a broad spread of prices across the Republic of Ireland, particularly within the Rosderra graded pricing system. The average price for pigs slaughtered this week is currently between €1.74/kg and €1.78/kg, although some producers are still securing higher prices in northern factories.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 7 was €1.485/kg (excluding VAT), which is slightly up (0.3%) on last weeks’ average price. However, when compared to the previous month prices are -0.2% lower and sit -17% below the same period last year. Last week showed positive movement across the EU pig market in terms of price, with the first signs of a slight upward turn in the market, which is much needed after severe pressure across EU pig prices for a sustained few months. Germany increased by 5c/kg, Spain up 2c/kg, Netherlands up 5c/kg and Belgium up 5c/kg too.
The weekly throughput for week ending the 22nd of Feb according to the DAFM was 68,631, of which 1,842 were sows.
