Pig Market Report 6th August

There was no change in Irish pig prices last Friday with producers reporting an average price of circa €2.06 – 2.08/kg for pigs sold in ROI.

 The average price for grade E carcasses in week 30 stood at 203c/kg (excluding VAT), practically the same as the previous week and is also -4.8% behind prices last month. This is also -5.1% lower than the same period last year.

UK pig price increased slightly by €0.01, now at €2.407/kg, the highest among listed countries.

Main pig prices (unchanged): Germany:€1.95, Ireland:€2.06/kg Netherlands:€1.812, Denmark: €1.796, Belgium: €1.74/kg Decreases: France dropped by €0.03 to €2.242/kg, Spain fell by €0.04 to €2.286/kg.

Wheat prices are falling on Euronext. September 2024 closed at €193.50/t, a new low. December dropped below €200/t. Main pressure is coming from the U.S. market, not the Black Sea. Chicago wheat and corn are dropping fast, pulling European prices down. Corn prices are also sliding, despite heat concerns in southern France. November 2024 corn closed at €192/t, also a new low. Rapeseed is more stable, only dipping slightly and holding its key support level. Soybeans are holding up, with weather risks in August keeping prices more stable.
