Pig Market Update 22nd June

Irish pig price was increased by 4c/kg this week in Irish processing plants with Farmers receiving quotes of €1.82c/kg up to €1.92 or €1.88– €1.92/kg. The weekly throughput for week ending 19/06/22 was 66,620.

The European market prices have levelled with the weighted average price for grade S & E carcass at circa. €1.91/kg. In the last week the Spanish pig price increased to €2.08/kg, due to improving market and hot temperatures, demand has increased. While the German price saw no change, they are hopeful of an increase this week.  France, UK and Spain have exceeded €2/kg.

While Irish pig farmers recognise the 4c/kg rise this week, its crucial to pig farmers that they receive more return from the market in order to continue pig production as losses continue to mount. The Karro factory in Cookstown increased their price by 6c/kg last Friday. Pigmeat exports January 2022 to April 2022 when compared to year previous are down – 8% in value and – 4.2% on volume.
