Irish pig farmers are enduring extremely difficult conditions at present and are incurring massive losses.  The IFA held an IFA National Pig farmers meeting last week which the Minister of Agriculture Charlie McConalogue attended. Farmers voiced their very serious concerns for their farms with the Minister and explained that state aid is needed immediately for the sector which contributes to 8% of Irish Agricultural Output and supports over 8000 jobs, many of which are in rural communities.

On the European market, pig prices are steady this week.  Dutch price Is back down 5c/kg and the Spanish pig price is up 4c/kg. Many EU member states have now adopted support measures to support the pig sector and in some cases, support is being received from Covid support measures.
