Irish pig prices have remained stable compared with last week, with producers reporting a broad spread of prices across the Republic of Ireland. Those operating under the graded pricing system have reported slightly higher prices for certain pig weight categories, though the average price for pigs processed this week is reported to be between €1.68/kg and €1.72/kg. Pig farmers who are selling their pigs to the North are on higher prices than those quoted above and the same is the case for farmers selling pigs on the grading pricing structure in the South.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 28 was €1.53 (excluding VAT), reporting a decline of 1.7% on last week’s average price. When compared with the previous month, prices have fallen by 2.4% and sit 25.4% behind the same period last year.
According to the latest Agritel’s report, tensions in the Middle East and Black Sea, coupled with below average yields across Europe, have created upward pressure on feed prices. There has been a 7.6% decrease in wheat yield from 2025, which translates to a 6.5% decrease on the 10-year average. This, accompanied with poor yields in other crops, is creating heightened demand on all crops.
Oil prices have also risen this week due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
