PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Report 25th June

Markets are challenging at present. Consumption is slow due to weather conditions. On a positive note, demand for the food service sector should improve as schools finish for the summer break this week. To date demand for early varieties is positive. Queens continue to come onto the market as they are fit.

The market situation is difficult across Europe at present. The main aim of the processing factories is to clear contracts in time for the new crop – which is ahead of schedule. Free buy stocks in stores are extremely difficult to clear and growers are moving increasing volumes to cattle feed and starch production – where prices are also falling. In the U.K the heat has also stifled demand across the board – for frying varieties, demand is reported to be slightly improved.
