Retail demand and home consumption are stable. Consumer trends show that smaller pack sizes are increasing in sales which is having an impact on volumes sold. There are continued reports of some quality issues and there is good demand for pre-pack quality material.
The NPEG have just published their latest assessment of the potato crop in Northern Europe. Production in the zone is expected to reach 27.2mt’s, 10% higher than last year. This has been caused by a 7% increase in plantings and 5% increase in yield, which was influenced to a high degree by early planting and good growing conditions.
