PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Report 16th September

Home consumption and retail demand continue to increase week on week as household schedules normalise. Potato packers continue to seek out supply for the upcoming season. There are reports of cases of secondary growth following the recent drought period. It is still uncertain how much crops have or will ‘bulk up’. The market is responding accordingly.

Yields of processing varieties in Belgium and France are unlikely to reach average despite the heavy rain. Much of the crop had senesced but signs of growth can be seen although this includes a high level of secondary growth. In France, yield deficits of 20% are expected, compared to average.

In the U.K. unirrigated crops which were viable appear to have benefitted from the recent rain and show yield improvements.
