PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 4th March

The potato trade continues to remain positive across all market outlets. Buyers are continuing to look for premium product. After another storm last weekend ground conditions remain treacherous across the country. Early plantings will not continue for some time and any material remaining in the ground from last year is unlikely to be lifted at this stage. Growers are encouraged to continue supplying the peeling market at this time with reports from growers indicating that peelers are offering north of €180/tonne.

In the U.K. the first early plantings are behind schedule and if the weather does not improve in the coming weeks this could be a growing concern. Demand is also slightly subdued in the U.K also with most orders been fulfilled with contracted material. There are reports that an early season is expected in Poland but also that the quality of material in store is deteriorating rapidly.
