IFA and Irish Farmers Journal to Address Joint Oireachtas Meeting on Brazil Investigation

A delegation from the IFA and the Irish Farmers Journal will address the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture this morning on the proposed Mercosur agreement and their recent investigation in Brazil.

The Delegation will be led by IFA President Francie Gorman and Director General Damian McDonald. They will be joined by IFA’s Senior Policy Executive Tomas Bourke, IFJ Deputy Editor Adam Woods and IFJ picture Editor Phillip Doyle, who all travelled 3000 kilometres across Brazil visiting farms, marts and stores.

The delegation found that there were no proper controls in place in relation to the sale of antibiotics.

Since the investigation was published it has been revealed that EU had to recall meat imported from Brazil from a number of countries due to the presence of the illegal hormone Oestradiol. See report into the Brazil Investigation in full here.
