Dairy Farmers Will Not Pay on the Double for Promotion – Kiersey
IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Kevin Kiersey has welcomed the meeting scheduled for today (Monday) between the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney and the Irish Dairy Board. He said the issue of a dairy promotion levy should be sorted out between the Minister and the IDB.
Kevin Kiersey reiterated the view of dairy farmers, who already pay a marketing levy to the IDB, that they are not going to pay on the double.
“The Irish Dairy Board need to convince the Minister that they are directing the farmers’ levy and co-op resources to preparing the ground to capitalise fully on the milk expansion post-2015,” Mr Kiersey said.
“Whatever the outcome, dairy farmers are absolutely clear: they cannot afford, and will not pay two marketing levies,” he concluded.
