Market Prices and News
Global grain markets remain very similar to the last report. MATIF wheat for May 2026 gained €1/t last week to close on Friday Feb 13th at €191.50/t.
Chicago maize and wheat futures for May-26 recorded small gains of +0.7% and 1.8% respectively last week. Chicago wheat for May-26 is $201.52/t (€171/t) with maize at approximately €147/t (AHDB).
Native prices for nearby remain similar. Spot wheat is put at €212-215/t with demand reported as sluggish. Spot barley is higher at €215-220/t with maize at €225-228/t.
For new crop Nov-Dec-26 native prices are €215-220/t for wheat and €210-215/t for barley.
Rapeseed prices remain firm, Paris May-26 futures returned over €490/t the highest price since July 2025. New crop futures for Nov-26 have also tracked upwards and have returned over €470/t. This week Quinns of Baltinglass offered growers €445/t for oilseed rape for harvest 2026.
Malting barley prices on FOB Creil index are reported to have improved slightly in recent week to approximately €208/t. Boortmalt offered its supply chain network a fixed price offer of €225/t for 20% of contracts last week.
Global Grain Supply and Demand
USDA released its WASDE report last week on February 10th , key points are presented below.
Global ending stocks for wheat were reduced slightly by 0.7MMT to 277.5MMT but ending stocks in major exporters remain at 5-year highs.
Argentinian production is forecast at a record 27.8MMt with exports expected at 18MMT.
Global maize stocks are put at 289MMT down 1.9MMT on last month. Export demand for US corn is described as robust with the average price received at farm level being reported at $4.10/bu (€137/t).
South American maize supply for the coming year remains a watch point. The Safrinha crop in Brazil has been reduced to 109.26MMT for 2026 which is 3.5% lower than 24/25. Planting of this crop is taking place at present after the soyabean harvest (CONAB).
Expana has forecast EU-27 soft wheat production for 2026 at 128.3MMT.
