Irish pig prices were unchanged at the end of last week, with producers reporting a wide range of prices across the Republic of Ireland, particularly under the Rosderra graded pricing system. The average price for pigs slaughtered this week now stands at between €1.74/kg and €1.78/kg. However, some producers continue to achieve prices above this average in factories in the North.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 5 was €1.48/kg (excluding VAT), which is slightly up (0.3%) on last weeks average price, however when compared to the previous month prices are -6.4% lower and sit -17% below the same period last year.
Market activity remained very quiet at the start of the week, with little change in prices as most production figures are already known. Global wheat and corn supplies showed only minor adjustments, while EU wheat stocks increased due to higher imports and lower exports. Soybean production was revised higher, mainly on increased output in Brazil, leaving global stocks slightly higher.
The weekly throughput for week ending the 8th of Feb according to the DAFM was 56,054 of which 1065 were sows.
