Pig Market Report 9th July

There was a disappointing 10c/kg drop in Irish pig prices last Friday with producers reporting an average price of circa €2.18/kg for pigs sold in ROI. Having said that, there is still a strong demand for  pigs born and reared in Ireland, and consumption volumes are up on the Irish retail market which is positive.

Across Europe there was both downward, upward and stagnant prices reported; Denmark -7, Germany -15, Netherlands -15, France +3, Spain no change(€2.36), GB -2 (£2.41). the average price for grade E carcasses in week 26 stood at 213.2c/kg (excluding VAT), unchanged from the previous week. This is also almost on par to the average price four weeks previous and is -3.7% lower than the same period last year.

The weekly throughput for week ending the 6th of July as reported by the DAFM was 66,569 of which 1,886 were sows.

Wheat prices are stable at €193–195/t with little selling or international demand. Corn prices are falling after last week’s rise, partly due to drops in Chicago, and dry conditions in southern France and the Balkans and this is worrying as flowering begins. Rapeseed holds firm at €460/t, supported by higher oil prices.
