Irish pig prices were unchanged at the end of last week, with producers reporting a wide range of prices across the Republic of Ireland, particularly under the Rosderra graded pricing system. The average price for pigs slaughtered this week now stands at between €1.74/kg and €1.78/kg. However, some producers continue to achieve prices above this average in factories in the North.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 6 was €1.485/kg (excluding VAT), which is slightly up (0.3%) on the previous weeks average price, however when compared to the previous month prices are -3.1% lower and sit -17% below the same period last year.
According to Agritel, EU grain and oilseed prices softened as export demand for wheat and corn remained weak, despite a slightly weaker euro. Corn imports into the EU continue to rise, with the US and Brazil gaining share alongside Ukraine, while rapeseed imports are also increasing, including new volumes from Australia. The higher availability of these supplies has put pressure on Euronext rapeseed prices, which have fallen back below 490 €/t.
