
There was no change in Irish pig prices last Friday with producers reporting an average price of circa €2.28/kg for pigs sold in ROI. There are pig farmers reporting up to 4c/kg above the average, with growing demand for ROI born and reared pigs.
The EU average price for week 23 for grade E carcass was 212c/kg excluding vat. This is the same as the previous week but is representative of an 2.6% increase on last month’s prices and is -4% behind prices for the same month last year.
The weekly throughput for week ending the 8th of June was 64,762 of which 2,092 were sows.
Oil prices went up because of tensions in the Middle East and the euro has weakened against the dollar. Hot, dry weather in France is speeding up the barley harvest. But farmers are worried the heat could hurt the wheat crop which will be harvested soon. On Euronext (European market), grain and oilseed prices went up yesterday after falling the day before. Soyabean increased as there appears to be more demand from the biofuel industry for soy oil.
