No change for a fourth week in succession, despite further pig price increases in continental Europe. A low price of €1.94c/kg in the south of the country is reported, but the majority of pig farmers report receiving €1.96c/kg this week.
IFA Pigs Chairman Tom Hogan said pig prices have taken a significant increase on European markets and that returns for processors have never been as good. Regarding the outlook for pig prices, Teagasc have predicted an average pig price in 2020 of €2.15c/kg. This good price is entirely dependent on the country remaining free from ASF. IFA Pigs chairman Tom Hogan called on all authorities with responsibility over imported products into the Island of Ireland to increase checks and testing on product from regions where ASF is present.
