Potato markets remained steady over the past week, with demand continuing to track seasonal norms. Consumption remains solid across retail channels, supported by stable household demand. Demand remains strong for pre-packing quality as some quality issues in stores continue to be reported. This in turn is having a knock-on effect on the peeling market. Persistent wet weather has continued to restrict field work, with very little early plantings carried out to date.
Across Europe, the state of the processing physical market is unchanged. Movement of processed product within Europe and onto world markets is showing no signs of improvement and ex-farm movement of contracts is falling behind. Clearing the surplus for cattle feed, AD use and starch production is the main objective.
