PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 12th April

Once again very wet weather conditions have halted any field work and plantings, with more rain forecast plantings are now very much behind schedule. Demand for home consumption remains buoyant. There was good trade for peeling material for the food service sector over the Easter break with strong prices reported. It is reported that stocks are tightening following significant exports in recent weeks.

The 2023 Scheme of Investment Aid for the Seed Potato Sector and the Chipping Potato Sector is open and will close on Friday the 14th of April.

Across Europe, export markets are less dynamic because of the high prices and there is little movement to Eastern Europe. Fresh markets are stable and free buy stocks are very tight as more Mediterranean stocks arrive.  Similarly in the U.K. planting are delayed again this week due to wet weather conditions.
