PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 5th April

Dismal weather conditions continue to put the brakes on groundwork and any maincrop plantings. The Easter break should boost trade for the food service sector. Consumer demand and home consumption is quite good because of colder weather conditions. Exports from Ireland to the continent continue this week as stocks remain short across Europe.

The 2023 Scheme of Investment Aid for the Seed Potato Sector and the Chipping Potato Sector is now open and will close on Friday the 14th of April.

Across Europe, fresh markets remain firm with values unchanged apart from Southern Germany where stocks are becoming increasingly tight.  In the UK, it is reported that contracts have cleared well this week as buyers stock up for Easter. Wet weather conditions continue to delay maincrop plantings also.
