Demand for Potatoes Remains Strong Post-christmas
As expected, demand for potatoes was strong over the Christmas period with many reports of an increase in sales on last year. The beginning of January often sees a lull in sales as a result of the Christmas demand however, orders continue to remain reasonable this week.
The new year has begun as 2016 ended with many growers continuing to receive calls from buyers seeking to secure supplies for the rest of the year. As a result, growers are in a favourable position of having to turn down prospective sales as they will struggle to fulfil previously committed orders. Prices for chipping potatoes have really jumped in the past few weeks and anyone with suitable Maris Piper etc. in ambient store should investigate this market outlet.
