Lamb Numbers Tighter

National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey has said the lamb trade is stable this week with factories paying €5.10 to €5.15/kg. He said it is disappointing that the price is not moving on at this time of the year.

John Lynskey said lambs are getting scarcer with the weekly kill dipping below 2016 levels for the first time this year at 46,242. He said the Department figures show that we have processed an additional 53,955 sheep to date this year, meaning that any surplus or overhang is now gone out of the system.

He said the ewe trade is stronger with prices of €3.00 to €3.20/kg.
