Lamb Prices Need to Drive on

Sheep Welfare Scheme

IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey has said the lamb trade is stable with factories paying from €5.10 to €5.20/kg. He said carcass weights in general are 23kgs but some producers with quality stock are bargaining on this point.

John Lynskey said the lamb price needs to drive on more as this time last year they were making €5.70/kg.

On ewes, John Lynskey said factories are paying €3.00/kg up to 45kgs.

On the kill he said weekly slaughterings have come back to close on last year’s level indicating that any surplus stock have been moved at this stage.
