Lamb Trade and Price Steady
IFA National Sheep Committee Chairman Sean Dennehy said the lamb trade has steadied this week with factories paying €5.00/kg. He said supplies are tighter and the main issue is under finished lambs.
Sean Dennehy said some plants are taking advantage of the drought conditions and going way too severe on price cuts for underweight lambs. He said imposing severe cuts at anything below 17kgs is too severe in the current environment.
The IFA Sheep farmers leader said the UK market is returning £4.40/kg which is equivalent to €5.20/kg incl. vat. for lamb.
He said ewes are making €2.70-2.80/kg.
Sean Dennehy said the IFA are due to meet the Department of Agriculture tomorrow Tuesday the 24th of July on sheep tagging and EID issues
