New Farmer Support Measures to Be Activated by Eu Commission

The EU Commission has announced a package of measures to support farmers during the current income crisis. The package was agreed following this week’s meeting of the EU Agriculture Council.

Measures include:

  • Doubling of intervention ceilings for skimmed milk powder and butter
  • Temporary increase in allowable state aid to €15,000 per year per farmer with no national ceiling
  • Market observatory for the beef and pig meat sectors to be created
  • Additional funding for promotional support for exports of pigmeat and dairy products
  • Further private storage aid supports for more pig products to be examined
  • Commission wants Member States to prioritise engagement with EIB to develop appropriate financial instruments to assist farmers and processors
  • Voluntary dairy supply management to be allowed on a temporary basis
  • Feasibility of an export credit scheme to supplement schemes run on a national basis to be examined.
