Beef Update
Speaking at a Charter of Rights meeting, IFA Livestock Chairman Brendan Golden said, “The letters that issued to 1,000 farmers in the BEAM scheme referencing ‘Associated Herds’ has completely changed the goal posts for these farmers. This is unacceptable at this late stage in the scheme”. Brendan Golden said that DAFM going back and readjusting the scheme figures for these farmers is a fundamental retrospective change to the Terms and Conditions signed up to by participant farmers. IFA called for DAFM to allow farmers to ‘opt-in’ for these readjusted figures but they cannot enforce a compulsory change for all farmers affected.

Sheep Update
IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Dennehy said supplies are tight and demand is strong.
He said €7.60 to €7.80/kg is available, with deals for larger lots and producer groups pushing past these prices. Cull ewes are making €3.20 to €3.50/kg.
Conditions are strong as the food service sector demand increases for the summer months.
He said there will be a strong push in the trade to secure supplies to meet the demand on the lead in to Eid al-Adha which runs from 19th to 23rd of July.
The IFA Sheep Chairman said it’s important farmers sell hard while moving lambs as they become fit to maximise returns from the market place.
Lamb Price Update 03/06/21
