Market Prices and News

Paris MATIF wheat futures rallied slightly last week, Dec-25 futures closed at €193/t on Friday last week up by €3.50/t on the week, whilst May-26 futures climbed above €200/t for the first time since early October. Prices, at the time of writing, have climbed to €195/t for Dec-25.

Currency movements rather than any significant supply side change has driven the increase. The €/$ rate fell below $1.15 for the first time since the end of July, and this makes EU cereals more competitive.

Chicago wheat futures were also supported by reports that China is keen secure wheat of US origin following positive China-US talks on agricultural trade.

Closer to home native prices remain largely unchanged. Prices for dried wheat in December are in around €215/t depending on the day, dried barley is €10/t lower.

Oilseed rape prices were supported last week due to movement in other oilseeds such as soybeans. Chicago soybeans have strengthened following Chinese commitments to purchase 25MMT of US beans over the next 3 years and also to suspend retaliatory tariffs on agricultural goods.

For MATIF oilseed rape, rape the Nov-25 contract has expired and nearby position shifts to Feb-26, prices for this contract are approximately €480/t, further out, contracts for harvest 2026 are lower at €468-470/t respectively.
