Market Prices and News

Global wheat prices increased last week due to weather conditions and other global factors.

MATIF Dec-25 futures gained €7/t to Friday June 20th closing at €219.25/t, this was due to reports of drought in some regions of Krasnodar in Russia. However, prices have declined again in trading this week with Dec-25 closing at €210.25/t.

CBOT wheat futures for Dec-25 also rose sharply last week (+$9/t) due to rain affecting winter wheat harvesting in Kansas. Harvest is only 19% completed by June 22nd versus the 5-year average of 28% (USDA).

In western Europe, harvest has commenced in many regions of France with winter barley and winter OSR ripening quickly due to high temperatures. Agritel have reported that yield and quality are satisfactory.

French crop ratings declined last week due to hot weather conditions. AgriMer observations reported that soft wheat was 68% good, down 2 points on the week with spring barley at 67% down 3 points on the week.

Geopolitical factors continue to affect markets with middle east tensions affecting currency values. The euro dollar rate has reached as high as €1/$1.17, the highest since October 2021 and this has forced European prices lower as a result (Agritel).

Native prices for new crop dried wheat are at €225-230/t with maize ex. port at €217-220/t, up from €215/t earlier in the month Dried barley remains between €215-220/t.

Tirlan issued grain price offers for green barley at €185/t green and €195/t for green wheat.

Rapeseed prices have volatile in the past two weeks. Paris MATIF futures for August and November 2025 crossed the €500/t mark on Wednesday June 19th , Aug-25 futures closed at €505/t on Friday 20th of June. However, the correction in crude oil prices has seen MATIF rapeseed fall back to €490/t this week. Irish ex. farm prices remain at €460/t.
