There was no official change in Irish pig prices on Friday last however, some suppliers of Rosderra, due to the introduction of Rosderra’s grading system, are reporting significant price increases for pigs supplied to the factory in the required spec. It is estimated that this has resulted in an increase of 3c/kg in the average national pig price for this week’s pigs.  This brings the average price paid in ROI for this week’s pigs to €1.81/kg. 

The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 48 was €1.66/kg (excluding VAT), which is back -1.8% on the previous week however when compared to the previous month prices are -4.6% lower and sit -13% below the same period last year.

The weekly throughput reported by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine for week ending the 7th of December was 76,854, of which 1,897 were sows. 

Prices across Europe have fallen significantly in a reaction to Spain’s first confirmed cases of African swine fever. Officials say that the outbreak in Spain may have leaked from a research lab. The Spanish price has fallen 25c/kg last week to €1.44/kg.
