Pig Market Update 17th November

Pig price held stable this week. Farmers are receiving quotes ranging from €1.44c/kg up to €1.48 or €1.46 – €1.50/kg for some this week.

The EU pig meat prices experienced no change this week and the market appears to be stabilising, although some MS are receiving low prices for many reasons.  One of the main threats to farmers in mainland EU at present is African Swine Fever (ASF).   Enhanced biosecurity measures must be implemented rigorously to help stop the spread of ASF into more commercial farms on the mainland.

The Chinese pig price has seen an increase on last week’s price to 18.21/kg RMB which would equate to about €3.17/kg DW.

The cost of inputs has increased substantially this year pushing pig farmers into negative territory.  Feed, energy, labour, have all experienced levels of inflation which have driven the cost of production up significantly.
