Prices for pigs remain at similar quotes, with €1.96/kg being achieved by most farmers. While the pig market in continental Europe has seen decreases in pig prices since Christmas, the market has now stabilised.
Pig prices in Spain, Denmark and Germany which had seen a 20c/kg price reduction have turned the corner and are on an upward trend. This is due to increased export demand and tighter supplies. The outlook for Irish pigs remains very positive with the price expected to hold into February when demand is forecasted to pick up from Asian buyers. This in turn should see prices cross the €2/kg mark in Ireland and across Europe again.
