Pig Market Update 8th December

Pig price held stable this week. Farmers are receiving quotes ranging from €1.44c/kg up to €1.48 or €1.46 – €1.50/kg for some this week. Throughput last week amounted to 75,672 in ROI.

EU pig meat prices experienced no major change again this week in price and the Chinese price remains around the €2.90-€2.95/kg at present.

Some respite may be on the horizon for farmers regarding feed costs; While cereals continue to remain strong, the outlook on hipro soya, which is a core protein ingredient in pig diets, is better as a bumper harvest and is putting downward pressure which should provide feed mills and pig farmers some respite. Cereal prices have been a little more volatile of late indicating that the peak may have passed.
