PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Report 25th February

There is little change in the market this week. Home consumption remains strong as poor weather prevails. As growers move through stores, there are continued reports of some quality issues, which is feeding into the oversupply of the peeling market. Again, wet weather has halted most fieldwork. A very small amount of early planting took place in the south-east this week.

Across Europe, the anguish for growers is being drawn out as it is becoming increasingly difficult to move free-buy stocks off farms. AD plants, stock feed outlets and Starch factories are all over supplied.   Free- buy prices are under pressure and even buyers for the fresh fry sector who require the best are offering lower values.

Export demand is very quiet but there is hope that demand will eventually come from Eastern Europe, although in France movement to Spain is going well.
