Bps Applications Are in – What Next?

More than 130,000 farmers applied for the Basic Payment Scheme by the 2016 deadline last Monday, May 16th.

Farmers now have until May 31st to make amendments to their applications, if necessary.

The 100,000 farmers who applied online automatically qualify for the new pre-checking arrangement as part of CAP simplification. This means that where there is a problem with an application, the farmer will be notified online and via text message before June 13th. The farmer will be given a week to respond to this notification and files and applications may be rectified without any penalty. This should speed up the payment process.

An advance BPS payment will begin to issue to farmers from October 16th. This is usually a 50% payment but IFA is calling for this to be increased to a 70% advance payment in light of the serious income crisis most farmers are experiencing.

Balancing payments will be made from December 1st onwards.
