Farmers’ Flooding Fund Must Be Set Up by Government

IFA Flood Project Chairman Tom Turley said the Government must establish a flooding fund for farmers to deal with the losses they have incurred as a result of the recent flooding.

Tom Turley welcomed the Teagasc and Department of Agriculture assessment of flood damage and losses currently taking place. He said this must now form the basis of a compensation scheme to ensure that farm businesses can survive following the recent devastation.

The IFA organisation on the ground is working closely with Teagasc in identifying those areas that need to be assessed.
Affected farmers should contact their local Teagasc offic. A Teagasc Helpline is avaialable on 076-1064408.
