IFA Meets Taoiseach Enda Kenny on Brexit

IFA President Joe Healy this week met with Taoiseach Enda Kenny to discuss the key priorities for agriculture in Brexit negotiations, ahead of the IFA Brexit event on April 24th.

At the meeting, the IFA President and Taoiseach Enda Kenny discussed the priorities for agriculture and farming, as spelled out in the recently launched policy document Brexit: The Imperatives for Irish Farmers and the Agri-Food Sector.

IFA is mounting a strong campaign at home and in Europe to make sure farming and food are at the top of the Brexit agenda. As part of the campaign, IFA this week met with the EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier.

IFA is very clear that the outcome of Brexit negotiations must include a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the EU and UK, which would include the following specific elements for agriculture and food: tariff-free trade for agricultural products and food; maintenance of equivalent standards on food safety, animal health, welfare and the environment; and application of the Common External Tariff for imports to both the EU and UK. A strong CAP budget is also critical.
