IFA Environment & Rural Affairs Chairman Thomas Cooney has described the decision by An Bord Pleanála to give EirGrid planning permission to construct several hundred pylons across the north-east as a decision which broadly ignores the substantial concerns and wishes of the communities that are being asked to endure this infrastructure.

IFA Environment and Rural Affairs Chairman Thomas Cooney has said that An Bord Pleanála must ensure that landowners’ genuine concerns, including their call for the undergrounding of the proposed North-South 400kV project, must be heard and fully addressed in the current oral hearing for the project.

IFA’s Environment and Rural Affairs Chairman Harold Kingston has welcomed EirGrid’s decision not to develop the proposed project in the south east called Grid Link. He also called on EirGrid to review plans for similar projects in the north east and the west of Ireland.
