IFA Farm Forestry Chairman, Pat Collins has said farmers are very angry at the lack of progress made with the Hen Harrier Threat Response Plan. He said it is inexcusable that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has not held a meeting of the Consultative Committee in nearly thirteen months.
IFA SAC Project Chairman Padraic Joyce has accused the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of reneging on previous commitments on designated SAC and SPA areas by refusing to put in place a proper compensation scheme for farmers with designated land, and failing to take into account the devaluation of land as a result of designation.

IFA President Eddie Downey has called on Heritage Minister Heather Humphreys to agree compensation measures that fully recognise the loss of earning and fall in land value incurred by farmers with designated lands. At a meeting this week, the President said that consultation and a proper appeals process must also be introduced to ensure fairness for farmers affected by designations.
