Organic Farmer from Cork Scoops Top EU Award
IFA Organic Project Team Chair John Fitzpatrick has congratulated Kay O’Sullivan from Mourneabbey in Co Cork on winning the EU Best Organic Female Farmer award today.
She won the award as part of the EU Organic Awards 2026 ceremony in Brussels today.
“Kay O’Sullivan’s achievement showcases the best of productive organic farming in Ireland. Operating on a highly efficient suckler to beef and sheep organic farm in north Cork, the award winner is leading the way for the organic sector here,” John Fitzpatrick said.
The Irish organic sector has experienced an influx of new farmers in recent years. There are over 5,600 farmers now farming organically, occupying 5.6% of the national land area. The National Organic Strategy 2024–2030 and the Climate Action Plan aim to increase Ireland’s organic agricultural land area to 10% by 2030.
“Ambassadors such as Kay O’ Sullivan steering the way for the organic sector at an EU level is critically important as it strives to develop more markets for its high-quality Irish organic produce,” he concluded.
