IFA Calls for Extension of Closing Date for BEEP Scheme

IFA National Livestock Chairman Angus Woods has called on the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to extend the closing date for the new €40/cow BEEP scheme by a week, to Fri, March 1st.

Angus Woods said the original application period was far too short and suckler farmers have to be given adequate time and a fair chance to apply for the scheme.

“Minister Creed needs to ensure that the BEEP scheme is a strong success and he must extend the application period to give every farmer the opportunity to apply.”

As of this evening, Angus Woods said over 17,000 farmers have applied on over 400,000 cows.

The IFA livestock leader encouraged all suckler farmers to apply for the BEEP scheme.  “IFA worked hard to secure funding in last year’s Budget to finance this scheme. €40/cow is not enough and IFA is working hard to secure targeted direct supports of €200/cow for suckler farmers.”
