Minister Delivers on IFA Call for Matching Funds for Dairy and Pig Farmer Eu Targeted Aid

IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary has welcomed the decision by Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to deliver on IFA’s call for matching funds to ensure that Ireland’s €13.7m share of the EU targeted aids voted on last September by the EU Agriculture Council was optimised for the benefit of Irish dairy and pig farmers under pressure.

“It is crucial now that, at least for the share of the aids to go to dairy farmers, the Minister would deliver an equal payment to every farmer, even allowing for some additional amount for young farmers, as this would be the fairest, simplest and least administratively costly way to proceed”, Mr O’Leary said.

“Most of all, the Minister must now make this payment without delay, as Irish dairy farmers’ cash flow position will come under much greater pressure within the next number of weeks”, he concluded.
