Digging is progressing well around the country with many farmers at different stages of lifting their crop from the ground. Many growers in the South East of the country have finished their harvest while growers in the North East are progressing with their harvest with many growers at the early stages of digging.
Growers are happy with the dry matter percentages after the difficult year experienced with excellent ground conditions for digging nationwide. According to growers around the country, yields are variable and are very dependent on variety and whether the crop was irrigated or not during the drought period. Stocks of Queens are running short with growers expecting to be fully out of Queens in a weeks time. Prices are remaining relatively stable and have dipped slightly in the past few weeks due to increased volumes on the market. Meanwhile, across Europe and in the UK, rain restricted digging progress since the weekend but was welcome in many areas as it has improved the digging conditions in dry areas and replenished moisture levels in the soil.
